How to use
Grate on a microplane or nutmeg grater directly into pie fillings, custards, eggnog, French toast, cream sauces, spinach and squash dishes. A few passes of the grater is usually plenty. Whole nutmeg keeps its aroma far longer than ground.
Good to know
- Nutmeg is the seed of an evergreen tree native to Indonesia's Banda Islands. Mace is the lacy covering around the same seed.
- Keep the container tightly closed in a cool, dry, dark cupboard, away from the stove, so the aroma and color last.
