It’s hard to believe, but it is estimated that over a billion people have high blood pressure. Vitamin D helps everything else. Could it help high blood pressure too?
This study gave 221 people who were overweight and over 65 1000mg of calcium citrate with either 600IU or 3750IU of vitamin D a day.
After 1 year, people in the 3750IU vitamin D group experienced a 4.2mm Hg reduction in systolic blood pressure; people in the 600IU group had a 2.8mm Hg reduction. For diastolic blood pressure, the high dose group had a 3.02mm Hg reduction; the low dose group had a 2.6mm Hg reduction.
For both systolic and diastolic, though the difference between the two doses was not significant, only the reductions in the 3750IU vitamin D group reached significance, suggesting that adding enough vitamin D helps lower your blood pressure.
